Qualifications
Katie earned her Bachelors of Education (with honours) from the University of Victoria. She taught for three years in both the Saanich and Victoria schools districts, with experience ranging from primary to high school. Katie's passion for the social/emotional wellbeing of children led her to complete her Masters of Education in School Counselling (with honours) from Seattle's City University. Working as a school counsellor since 2012, Katie knows how the school system works, and can advocate effectively for her clients. Katie is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), certified through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Training In addition to her formal qualifications, Katie also engages in ongoing professional development. Some recent courses and workshops Katie has attended are: Critical Incident Training Digital Threat Training Qualified to create Behaviour Response Plans Inclusive Education Training ASIST- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training Erase Bullying - Level 1,2 and 3 Lives in Balance - Collaborative Problem Solving Lost at School (with Dr. Ross Greene) Self-Regulation (with Dr. Stuart Shanker) Research Katie also engages in educational research. Partnering with UVic's Meg Kapil, Katie has co-developed a series of family centred sessions aimed at helping give tools to children and their parents to help with anxiety. Creating Calm has recently received a grant through the Centre for Outreach Education to pilot the sessions at local schools and has been featured by Unsinkable. |
